When Things End, Honor What Was and Who You’ve Become
There’s a moment in every ending where silence feels heavier than words. That’s where growth begins.
Relationships. Friendships. Family connections.
They each hold their own kind of grief. The kind that lingers even when you know it’s time to move on. Because when something ends, it’s not just the relationship that changes. It’s you. The version of you that existed inside that connection has to let go, too.
Healing asks you to stand in that space between what was and what will never be again. It’s uncomfortable and often quiet, but it’s also where truth begins to take shape.
You start realizing that endings don’t always mean failure. Sometimes they mean you’ve finally stopped abandoning yourself.
I’ve had to learn that more times than I’d like to admit. There’s grief in growing, especially when growth separates you from people you once thought would be there forever.
But the older I get, the more I understand that love and longevity aren’t the same thing. You can care for someone deeply and still know the relationship no longer aligns. You can honor what they gave you without needing to carry it forward.
And when I began healing, I noticed how uncomfortable it made some people… Friends, family members, and the people who were used to me saying yes.
My boundaries weren’t personal, but they took them that way. And that’s the thing about change, it reveals who can meet you in your evolution and who only knew the version of you that overgave.
If you’re in that place right now, give yourself permission to feel everything that comes with it.
The sadness.
The relief.
The nostalgia.
The guilt.
Don’t rush to label it or try to fix it. Sit with it. Let your emotions breathe. Be gentle with the parts of you that still want to reach back.
Tell your that you did your best, you’re safe now, and you no longer need to earn connection by keeping others comfortable at the expense of your authenticity.
Episode 5: When Relationships End 🎙️
In this week’s podcast episode, I talk about endings—romantic, platonic, and familial—and how they live in the body. I share what they do to your nervous system, how to honor the version of you that survived them, and what it means to grieve without needing a villain.
If you’ve ever struggled to let go of something you still love, this episode is for you.
